Safety Specialist

Description:
Provide local safety oversight through safety inspections across multiple buildings.
• Maintain facility required environmental, safety and health documentation for Hazardous Waste, Air Quality, Fire Life & Safety, Water Quality programs and medical surveillance programs.
• Execute comprehensive facility safety inspections to ensure continuous improvement while maintaining regulatory compliance.
• Evaluate and maintain SDS system to ensure correct hazards are identified for hazardous material labeling.
• Provide required regulatory training and maintain all safety related recordkeeping.
• Ability to identify and evaluate occupational exposures to harmful substances and make recommendations for control or elimination of hazards in accordance with Cal/OSHA, NIOSH and ANSI requirements.
• Assist in medical monitoring programs for employees.
• Support shop personnel in the appropriate selection of personal protective equipment and insure proper use as directed.
• Perform ergonomic evaluations.
• Facilitate Safety Committee meetings to achieve “Continual Safety Improvement” and communication for our employees.
• Maintain and update emergency response plans, procedures and facilities safety maps.

• EHS Training (including): HazCom, GHS, LockoutTagout, Forklift, Respirator Fit Testing & Training, First Aid Training/CPR, Ergonomic Training, New Hire Orientation and other training as needed.

What You Bring

• Minimum of 3 years relevant professional safety experience in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
• Bachelors Degree in a safety or related discipline preferred.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Professional Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health is desirable.
• Will also consider a combination of education, certifications, and relevant work experience. Current DOT and EPA certifications a plus.
• Experience with aerospace and/or composite manufacturing processes is desirable.
• Proficiency in PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel software applications.
• Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to develop and deliver articulate presentations to groups of all sizes and levels.
• Periodic overnight travel may be required for compliance training and offsite audits
• Ability to establish and maintain partnerships across functional areas.
• Ability to serve as an environmental/safety mentor and coach to others.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule that may occasionally include nights and weekends.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time or work in adverse weather conditions.
• Ability to kneel, squat, reach, climb, and use basic hand tools.
• Ability to periodically lift 50-75lbs.
• Ability to maintain DOT and EPA certifications.
• Ability to meet medical and Cal/OSHA requirements for respirator use.
• Ability to respond to serious emergency situations, but 24/7 on-call is not required.
• Must be a “U.S. person” as defined by the ITAR (22 CFR §120.15).

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
