Overview:

Join our team and contribute to a groundbreaking project at the Hanford Vit Plant, also known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are dedicated to transforming radioactive and chemical waste into a safe form for disposal, thereby protecting the Columbia River and surrounding communities.

Position Summary:

As a Senior Equipment Stress Engineer, you will be a crucial member of the Equipment Analysis Group, responsible for designing and analyzing complex mechanical equipment. Your role involves preparing design documentation, performing engineering calculations, and creating specifications for mechanical equipment used in waste treatment and support systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct equipment analyses using CFD and FEA software to produce design calculations and review vendor submissions.
Resolve technical issues related to equipment design, collaborating with various disciplines, suppliers, and clients.
Coordinate with other engineering teams to develop designs.
Support the production of equipment drawings, either as an individual contributor or by leading a team of engineers.
Prepare reports and studies to address technical issues in equipment design.
Assist in developing cost estimates and schedules for mechanical equipment.
Ensure all work meets project quality standards for nuclear facilities and adheres to project timelines.
Qualifications and Skills:

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering (or equivalent) with at least 13 years of relevant experience.
Experience in the design and fabrication of complex equipment, especially liquid and gas handling equipment (vessels, tanks, air handling equipment, mixers, etc.).
Proficiency in using CFD analysis software (such as STAR-CCM+ and/or ANSYS Fluent).
Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, including fluid flow, heat transfer, and acoustics.
Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, particularly ASME Section VIII, ASME B31.3, AISC ASD, AISC N690.
Experience working with quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.
Minimum Qualifications:

Broad knowledge of Mechanical Engineering design principles.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work well with others and adapt to changing conditions.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical examination (if at the construction site), and background check, including verification of employment and education.
Capability to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
Preferred Qualifications:

Professional Engineering (PE) license.
Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or related field).
Experience in DOE or commercial nuclear facilities, particularly in equipment design analysis.
Proficiency in using STAR-CCM+ and/or ANSYS Fluent CFD software.
Experience with ANSYS FEA software (Mechanical APDL or Workbench).
Expertise in equipment structural, thermal, and dynamic (e.g., seismic modal and response spectra) analyses.
Familiarity with corporate engineering guides and standards.
