JOB TITLE: Procurement Specialist I

LOCATION: Kansas City, MO

Summary:

    Under minimal supervision, the Procurement Specialist I is responsible for the procurement of assigned commodities and services required to support business goals. Uses best procurement practices to obtain lowest total cost of ownership for assigned items. Performs purchasing duties to plan and procure supplies, materials, equipment and services. Prepares RFIs, RFPs, and RFQs for goods and services. Evaluates supplier proposals and recommends contract awards. Prepares and executes purchase orders and agreements for goods and services in support of company business goals. Plans, evaluates, and procures planned goods, raw materials and chemicals to maintain adequate inventory levels to increase production proficiencies and on time completions. Coordinates the fabrication, heat treat, and material process requirements in accordance with FAA and OEM directives. Provides order updates to production, internal planning, and overhead department leadership. Expedites purchase orders as required to support customers (internal and external). Works directly with customers as a focal point for material status to keep production on track. Resolves issues pertaining to purchase orders: receiving, invoicing discrepancies and timely closure of purchase orders. Frequently communicates with suppliers to build and maintain positive, long-term supplier relations to assure competitive pricing, quality, and delivery targets are met. Conducts Supplier Performance review in conjunction with strategic objectives. Regular and prompt attendance. Effective and appropriate conduct with co-workers.

OTHER DUTIES:

    Performs other duties as assigned. Some travel may be required. May be required to work extended hours to meet deadlines and must be able to handle multiple high stress situations. May include developing and delivering presentations to Senior Staff.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to confidently lead conversations when interfacing with all management levels including production floor, planning, and engineering organizations. Excellent human relation skills and reasoning ability. Strong knowledge of planning systems and purchase order generation. Ability to effectively negotiate price, quality, and delivery schedules to maximize cost savings and supply chain direct margin. Ability to train employees in various procurement activities. Excellent skills in multi-tasking, organization and prioritization of multiple projects. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment by working independently with limited guidance. Basic understanding of Lean concepts and the ability to use supply chain management principles to support continuous improvement. Proficient in MS Office applications (Outlook, Excel, and Word).
Authority:
    Has fiduciary responsibility by preparing and executing purchase orders and agreements for goods and services in support of company business goals.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    Associates degree in related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Oracle experience strongly preferred. Service purchasing experience strongly preferred.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND DEXERITY:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to sit; use their hands and arms; and talk or hear; and focus on objects close up. The employee will also be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

ENVIRONMENT:

Normal business office conditions generally prevail. The noise level is usually low to moderate. Employee may be working in a cubicle, enclosed office, or open area. Floor may be carpeted or bare.

This position is prohibited from performing any safety sensitive functions to include the accomplishment or direct supervision of the following:

    Aircraft maintenance This includes inspection, overhaul, repair, preservation, and the replacement of parts. Preventive maintenance This includes simple or minor preservation operations and the replacement of small standard parts.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITY:

Duties shall include observing all company, health, safety and environmental rules, ensure provision of full information on area specific safety orientation, identify all unique hazards, and are provided with the proper equipment to carry out the job in a safe manner. Also, the entire work area must be routinely inspected to maintain a high standard of housekeeping and low incidence of physical hazards and all accidents must be promptly reported.
