Flight Controls Engineer

Description:
General Summary:
Design Engineer responsible for the conceptual design and production engineering of Aircraft Flight Control Systems. The candidate will be responsible for conceptual layout, detailed design and aircraft production & in-service design and modification.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Generates Engineering Models and Drawings utilizing CATIA Version 5.
2. Performs trade studies for Flight Control Systems to identify optimal engineering solution.
3. Define primary and secondary Flight Control System schematics and architecture
4. Develop component level requirements derived from top level system requirements
5. Perform clean sheet component layouts for Flight Control Systems in support of schematic architecture
6. Perform kinematic studies and system performance analysis for powered and unpowered Flight Control Systems
7. Utilizes drafting and Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerancing knowledge to optimize part design for cost and functionality.
8. Collaborates with the Integrated Product Team to resolve cross functional issues.
9. Review work performed by others and ensure work is to the highest standard.
10. Implements Industry best engineering practices (design for manufacturing, design for reliability and design for maintainability).
11. Have the ability to understand and apply certification requirements.
12. Have the ability to generate Flight Controls certification documents in support of design and qualification requirements.
13. Implement design solutions optimized for cost and weight.
14. Manages task execution to ensure on-time and on-target completion.
15. Searches for problem root cause and develop corrective action plans and solutions.
16. Serves as a primary interface within the Flight Control Systems group to ensure effective communication, coordination, and timely completion of project milestones.
17. Leads or participates in design / development reviews with management and internal customers. The candidate must have the ability to deliver technical presentations effectively to a diverse and demanding audience.
18. Investigate and disposition production line build issues. Must be familiar with Material Review Board processes.

Education, Work Experience, Certification and/or Licensure:
1. BS in Mechanical Engineering with 4-9+ years directly related experience
a. OR MS / MBA with 2-7+ years of experience
2. Some Travel will be required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Proficient in use of CATIA Version 5.
2. Proficient in use of Kinematic function within CATIA Version 5.
3. Advanced knowledge of drafting rules.
4. Advanced knowledge of Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
5. Proficient in Microsoft Office Products.
6. Use of Team Center.
7. Familiar with FAR Part 23 or Part 25.
8. Functional knowledge of SAP.
